Pepcid is prescribed for treating stomach and intestine ulcers. It is also given for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and Gastroesophageal reflux Disease.
Belonging to a group of medicines called Histamine-2 blockers, pepcid acts by brining down the acid that is produced in the stomach.
Always be very punctual in taking the doses. You should never take more doses or take pepcid for larger days as it can only increase the risk of side effects. Complete the whole course of the medication if you want total relief. In case you do not see any improvement in your condition in 6 weeks, better contact the doctor.
It is also better to take the right dose at the right time. In case you forget a dosage, have it once you realise it. However, you should skip the missed one if it is time for your scheduled medicine. Do not take two doses at the same time.
Always tell your doctor in detail about all your health conditions, including your allergies and ailments, before he gives pepcid. Once the doctor knows your health better, he would be able to take a right decision on pepcid medication.
Pepcid is not known to cause harm to the new born. Even then you should have to tell your doctor if you are pregnant before he prescribes pepcid. Breast-feeding mothers should not feed their babes if they are on pepcid medication as the drug is traced in breast milk.
The drug like all medicines also comes with allergic reactions and side effects.
