Your thyroid gland can stop the production of thyroid hormone at any time. When this happens, your body’s rate of metabolism will drop, which will in turn result in negative effects on your reproductive system. This state is known as hypothyroidism and it can be treated by taking Synthroid or levothyroxine. Some of the hypothyroidism symptoms may include dry skin, forgetfulness, fatigue, hoarse voice and swallowing difficulty among others. Synthroid is responsible for the body’s metabolism but it has to be prescribed by a doctor as a supplement so as to restore the balance of the thyroid hormone in the body.
When you are under synthroid medication, it is advised that you completely avoid some food products like walnuts, infant soy formula and high fibre foods among others because they can cause the body to absorb less synthetic hormone. In case you want to change the brands, it is recommended that you consult a doctor because different brands may perform differently for the same person. If you overdose on this drug, you should immediately seek medical attention. In case of overdose of this drug, you can experience pounding heartbeat, tremor, chest pain, seizures, vomiting, confusion and leg cramps.
Again, when you forget to take a dose on Synthroid, do not attempt to double it on the next dosage. It is advised that you follow the doctor’s instructions carefully and never continue to take the drug for longer than what was prescribed by the doctor. Only a doctor can change the dosage required over time.
